Windows 10 to be released on July 29

Written by Robert Griffin | 07/20/2015

On July 29, 2015, Microsoft will release Windows 10, its long-awaited new operating system.  Windows 10 is not an upgrade from a previous operating system; it is an entirely new platform.  Microsoft is not charging a licensing fee for Windows 10 for the first 12 months from the release date.  This will potentially save our clients thousands of dollars.

While Microsoft has not announced exactly how they will deliver Windows 10, it is probable that on July 29 you will see a popup box that will offer to begin the download and installation of the new operating system.  SeedSpark STRONGLY recommends that you decline this opportunity at this time.

Why decline this free upgrade?

First, as with any new software, there will inevitably be “bugs” in Windows 10.  These will be corrected in the weeks subsequent to the release.

Second, you may be running a specialty software that may not be compatible with Windows 10.  If you have a question or concern about such a software package, please contact the support desk immediately at (704) 246-5052 or send a ticket to support@seedspark.com.

If I upgrade now and something does not work, will I be able to reinstall my previous version of Windows?

No.  During the installation of Windows 10, the license key to any previous version of Windows is deleted and cannot be restored.  Also, Microsoft will cease selling licenses to previous version of Windows at the time of the release of Windows 10.

When can I download and install Windows 10?

Over the next 2-3 months, once we are confident that Windows 10 will provide the stable operating platform that will allow for you to work productively and efficiently, we will notify you of the steps necessary to download and install Windows 10.

If you have any questions, please call the support desk at (704) 246-5052.
